As a part of a broader series of use case assessments, QED-C members and financial services professionals explored how quantum networking technologies have the potential to drastically improve the protection of financial transactions. A full-day workshop on Feb. 22 in New York City explored solutions using quantum key distribution, entanglement-based quantum networks, and their intersection with post-quantum cryptography.
A highlight was the keynote by Whittfield Diffie, a pioneer in developing public-key cryptography. Whittfield talked about the evolution of cryptography and explored what quantum could mean for the finance industry. The Use Cases TAC will release findings and recommendations in a written report.

Announcements
A new QED-C blog reports that it’s time to focus on the needs of quantum application developers to ensure they have the right programming models to be successful.
Do not miss the QED-C Plenary Session, March 20-21 in Evanston, IL! In-person registration closes March 10. Join us to learn how to navigate government programs that may help your business and collaborate with quantum colleagues. (Members may also enjoy the sessions online from wherever they are.)
March 12 | 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm ET Public Event | Virtual
The Quantum Talent Showcase highlights student research on topics relevant to advancing the quantum industry and is a great opportunity for industry leaders to catch a sneak peek of up-and-coming talent. March’s session features student-researchers Emily Wright from Walther-Meiner-Institute, Technical University of Munich and Atiyya Davis from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
You don’t have to attend the plenary session in person to hear next-generation players from the University of Chicago’s Duality Accelerator Program, the first accelerator program in the U.S. exclusively focused on supporting innovative quantum startups. Presenters are from memQ, qBraid, QuantCAD, Icarus Quantum, and Great Lakes Crystal Technology. A panel discussion will follow.
Another opportunity for students interested in a quantum career! Sign up to be paired with a mentor for a half-hour conversation to help guide your career goals. From 11 AM to 3 PM ET.
“Been there, Done That” with Scott Davis, CEO/co-founder of Vescent Technologies. Listen to the podcast conversation between Davis and QED-C's Jon Felbinger, which explores the origins of Vescent and its pivotal milestones, past and upcoming.
Unitary Fund presented to the Standards & Performance Metrics TAC Computing Subcommittee on the Metriq platform for community-driven quantum benchmarks. There have been significant improvements to the user interface and presentation as well as additions to the content provided. Unitary Fund discussed these and their plans for a peer-review committee to evaluate new benchmark submissions.
CLOSING SOON! QED-C-Sponsored R&D Program seeks to advance Photonic Integrated Circuits (PICs) for quantum applications. Review the full Q&A. Deadline to submit your proposal: March 15, 2024.
