Quantum technologies depend on highly connected global supply chains. A new international study of 160 quantum companies examines where businesses source specialized inputs, manufacture quantum components and systems, and reach customers.
The findings show that cross-border relationships are central to the industry.
A global view of the quantum economy
The Global Quantum Supply Chain report provides policymakers, investors, industry leaders, and other stakeholders with a clearer view of the international relationships supporting quantum innovation and commercial growth.
The study found that companies across all size categories , including those with fewer than 10 employees, rely on cross-border supplier and customer networks. Component suppliers also reported selling into more countries than quantum systems developers.
The United States, Germany, the United Kingdom, Canada, and Japan were the five countries most frequently identified for both suppliers and customers.

As governments work to strengthen economic security and supply-chain resilience, quantum companies require access to specialized suppliers, trusted partners, and growing customer markets around the world.
The report offers evidence to inform policies that protect critical technologies while preserving access to preferred suppliers and international markets. It also provides a foundation for stronger coordination among countries working to support a secure and competitive global quantum industry.

About the survey
The Global Quantum Supply Chain Flows Survey was distributed in March and April 2026 to quantum companies in the United States, Canada, Europe, the United Kingdom, South Korea, Japan, and India.
Respondents identified the countries associated with their headquarters, suppliers, customers, and manufacturing of quantum components or systems. Widely available, easily substituted off-the-shelf parts were excluded. The survey did not collect company-identifying trade details.
A total of 160 companies met the study’s inclusion criteria. Research organizations were not included.
